  The building functions as a visitor center for Jia-Na-Ma-Ni Cairn: an ancient Tibetan Buddhist memorial dating back to the 17th century.     The building merges into the surrounding context - a small valley town on the splendid Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Local altitude is 3800 meters above sea level.

  RECYCLING MEMORY    The abandoned beams and columns from the earthquake were recycled to be incorporated onto the design vocabulary. 
  TO BUILD BY HAND    I spent half a year on site. Working with the local Tibetan builders was a poetic experience. It’s a community collaboration accompanied by traditional songs and dancing. I perceived the genuine beauty and happiness from the act of building.
